Granny's Pancake - Bendemeer Market & Food Centre

Peanut MJK, Coconut MJK, Red Bean MJK, Vegetarian Cheese MJK and Peanut with Peanut Butter MJK from Granny's Pancake.

Although the brand sounds like it has been around for a very long time, it was only started ten years ago at Ghim Moh Market & Food Centre. Since then, they have expanded to more outlets islandwide, but ensuring consistent quality by having a simple recipe. In general, their pancakes were quite soft and had a chewy texture but still melts quite well in your mouth.

Peanut: 6/10. Supposedly their popular flavour, this was quite disappointing. The filling was not as crunchy as I hoped, and did not have a strong roasted aroma. Although it was not very sweet, having more sugar could have added texture and taste

Coconut: 7.5/10. This filling was pretty good, with the shredded coconut staying moist but still having that fibrous crunch. It also had a good overall taste, with the orange sugar providing a good level of sweetness, letting the natural coconut flavour still shine

Red Bean: 6/10. The filling had a nice smooth texture, but the taste was muted, so much so that it almost tasted like eating just the pancake. Maybe the ratio contributed to this, I almost preferred if there was a slight graininess in its texture

Vegetarian Cheese: 8/10. Not sure if this was unique to this outlet, as I did not see reviews on this particular flavour before. The only crescent shaped one, the cheese filling was decent and went really nicely with the chewy pancake. Mildly salty by nature, this was a good savoury option to the other primarily sweet ones

Peanut With Peanut Butter: 9/10. The added peanut butter gave added levels of taste and textures. Sweet crushed peanuts with sugar complemented the salty peanut butter, while the crunchy texture of the former contrasted the creamy of the latter. This simple tweak worked so well, definitely my go-to order next time
