Chun Cheng Food Garden (春成羙食園) - Cheng San Market & Cooked Food Centre

MJK from Chun Cheng Food Garden (春成羙食園).

Not sure if their actual name should be Vegetarian Pancake (齋麵煎粿) instead, so I will leave both names to acknowledge both. Operated by an uncle, it shares the space with a carrot cake shop, probably the most cost effective way since it should only be open during mornings. With it being relatively unknown, I hoped that this would be a hidden gem for my MJK fixes. They sell the sliced-up folded pancakes in two flavours, while the individual curved ones had more variety. In general, the pancakes were chewy with a decent bite, but the folded ones had the extra crisp edges if you were lucky. Reviews below are focused on fillings, with some overall considerations.

Coconut Curve: 8/10. The shaved coconut was not overly moist, and still had a nice texture. There was also a good taste balance, with the sweet orange sugar counteracting the natural tartness of the coconut. If only they had this in the sliced-up version, I would think it would have similar success or better.

Green Bean Curve: 4/10. This had a salty aftertaste that I did not expect from the sign, so I am unsure if it was on purpose. The texture of the paste was chunky and grainy with hard bits of green bean, together with the taste mentioned above, it turned out poorly.

Cheese Curve: 7.5/10. Essentially dependent on the cheese used used, which are standard supermarket sliced cheeses. It was not and should not be that different, I always hoped they would be filled more as they only have one folded piece, looking quite flat compared to flavours with handmade fillings.

Peanut Slice: 6.5/10. This was not too sweet, but its texture was a little wet and soggy, with the peanuts on the chunkier side. Its flavour could be stronger by roasting it longer, though I am unsure if they make it in-house or buy them premade. Bought a sliced up version with edges, might be worse in the curve.

Red Bean Slice: 6/10. This was not too sweet, but its taste was quite mild. Texture wise it was quite smooth, but could be improved by adding some soft husks for contrast. There could be also be more filling, perhaps the curve was more generous.

The prices and opening hours may vary.
