Julaiha Muslim Restaurant - 538 MacPherson Rd

Plain Prata ($1.20) and Egg Prata ($1.60) from Juhaila Muslim Restaurant.

Julaiha Muslim Restaurant has been serving Indian Muslim food for over twenty years, and is currently in its fourth generation. Located along McPherson Road and still operating 24/7 during this COVID period, this place fits my breakfast needs during the peace and quiet of mornings. While not being as documented as some prata places, they do have their fair share of good reviews, so I visited to try their pratas myself.

Plain: 6.5/10. This had a nice layered interior with a slight char on its exterior, and was more on the chewier side and not much crisp. The taste of the dough was quite mild, and was not that rich in butter flavour, which made it not greasy as well.

Egg: 7/10. Almost the same as their plain prata, with almost the same textures and taste for their dough plus an egg within. The egg came as an added boost of flavours and textures, and was nicely distributed throughout the prata. That said, it could only help it so much, but was still a decent prata.

Curry: 6.5/10. Their fish curry tasted pretty decent, but a bit too mild for my preference, and lacked the depth compared to some others I have had before. I did not have as strong a whiff of its aroma when it was served. The consistency was on the runny side, which worked well with the doughy textures of their pratas

Overall: 6.7/10. The different items served were alright, but not something memorable that made you want more. If you happen to be in the area or want to satisfy your cravings any time of the day, this would work as a good spot. A little underwhelming for me, considering its popularity. Maybe their biryani is their star, and pratas were like a sideshow.
