Signature Wanton Noodle (Dry/Soup) ($3.50) and Dumpling Soup ($4.00)
The Signature Wanton Noodle (Dry/Soup) was simple yet delectable. I ordered the dry version in which the egg noodles were very springy and provided a nice mouth feel.
Besides the noodles, I also enjoyed the char siew which were soft and did not have the artificial sweetness that some char siew may have while the fried wanton added a crunchy element to the dish. Coupled with their subtly spicy chilli sauce, the noodles were actually pretty addictive as I cleared the bowl within a few minutes.
The Dumpling Soup ($4.00) came with six dumplings and a bunch of of vegetables. This was also a decent buy as the dumplings which contained pork and prawns were plump and firm and the dumpling skin was pretty thin. The soup had a surprisingly deep flavour as compared to regular wonton soup and I liked how the soup was served piping hot and that a generous amount of fried shallots were added to enhance the soup’s aroma.
For those of you who want to try the Tanjong Rhu Wanton Mee, do take note that not all the branches will have the same standard and quality as Bear did try the noodles from a branch in the woodlands area and she was not impressed as she felt that their noodles were just average.
I will be adding this place to my list of lunch/dinner options as it has exceeded my expectations and we will definitely find a chance to try the noodles at the original stall as well.
The prices and opening hours may vary.
