Enaq The Prata Shop - 303 Jurong East Street 32

Plain Prata ($1.10) and Egg Prata ($1.90) from Enaq The Prata Shop.

While searching for the best prata spots in Singapore, the places that show up are usually found in the east or central Singapore, with quite a few on Upper Thomson Road. Enaq The Prata Shop was also consistently featured, but seemed to be the only brand in the west. First opened at their Jurong location in 2008, they grew in popularity for their crispy pratas that they make with a special recipe, and was the first place to serve them with freshly made sambal sauce. I specially made plans to visit them, to find out if this was worth travelling to the west for.

Plain: 8.5/10. Cooked to a beautiful golden brown exterior for a delightful crisp on almost the entire surface, it was also not that greasy to maintain that crunch throughout. This contrasted well with its layered interior that was so fluffy, with a strong buttery taste in every bite for that mild sweetness. It gradually became quite heavy, a little smaller or lighter would be perfect.

Egg: 8.5/10. This was almost identical to their plain prata, with an added egg within that was well distributed for an even taste and texture throughout. Its interior felt fluffier perhaps due to the egg, that also added to the crispiness because of its frying. I would give this a slight edge over the plain, because taste wise the egg gave balance to the butter for some contrast.

Curry: 7.5/10. Fish curry was served with the pratas, and their sambal sauce that I will not consider in this part of the review to keep things consistent. A good level of spice and heat gave good flavour to the curry, and complemented the pratas well in taste. I preferred a slightly thicker consistency, but theirs worked well to be soaked up by the pratas

Overall: 8.2/10. I tasted what the fuss about them was, and safe to say it was well placed. Special mention to their sambal sauce that turned up the heat, can be eaten like a dip or improved the curry when mixed together. If I had to travel to the west, I would visit them again, and perhaps try one of their unique creations (I got my eyes on the peanut butter prata already)
